Discovery Semiconductors Introduces
Optical Coherent Receiver Systems

Ewing, NJ - May 18, 2005

Discovery Semiconductors, Inc., an industrial leader in manufacturing 10 Gb/s and 40 Gb/s optical receivers, introduces 2.5 Gb/s and 10 Gb/s Optical Coherent Receiver Systems. On one platform, Discovery Semiconductors has created the ability to detect multiple wavelengths and multiple modulation formats. The new system is an Intelligent Transport System as it is compatible with several modulation formats such as ASK, (D)PSK, and FSK. Discovery's Optical Coherent Receiver System provides superior sensitivity compared to an EDFA amplified direct detection for both fiber and free-space applications in the optical C and L bands. The system can also be used at other wavelengths, such as 980 nm, 1064 nm, 1310 nm and optical S band. By maintaining the optical phase information, this receiver opens up a whole new field of both digital and analog optical signal processing.

According to Mr. Donald Becker, Discovery Semiconductors' Program Manager for Coherent Systems, "The first launch of WDM transport systems at 2.5 Gb/s and 10 Gb/s had a big impact on the communications industry in the 1990s. Discovery Semiconductors Coherent System will have an even bigger impact in the 2000s." Mr. Becker, who is originally from Chicago, further continued, "It is a happy coincidence that the system will be first introduced on a larger scale in Chicago at this year's SUPERCOMM."

Discovery Semiconductors will also manufacture these systems for custom applications such as Intersatellite Communication Links, Military Coherent Systems from X band to Ku band, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) Communication Links.

Mr. Abhay Joshi, President and CEO of Discovery Semiconductors commented, "This is an important milestone for Discovery Semiconductors. The United States government played a key role in this technological development." Mr. Joshi further added that this new innovation combined with the company's extensive expertise in telecom, military, and space programs will fill the void for several of our customers' modern communication needs.

Discovery Semiconductors is an industry leader in manufacturing ultrafast, high optical power handling InGaAs photodetectors, radio frequency over fiber optical receivers, balanced optical receivers and several other custom products for applications ranging from analog RF links to ultrafast digital communications. They have experience with Space and High Reliability Military Projects, and their customers include Fortune 500 telecom and aerospace companies, defense organizations, universities and emerging communication companies.
