Introducing the "700 Series" of Balanced Photodiodes

Ewing, NJ - February 16, 2004

For the past several years, Discovery Semiconductors, Inc. has been commercially selling Balanced Photoreceivers, models R405 (14 GHz bandwidth) and R405ER (20 GHz bandwidth) for the 10 Gb DPSK and DPQSK market. These two models have well served the telecom industry in its R&D efforts of new modulation techniques of DPSK and DPQSK.

Today, we announce four new models of balanced photodiodes to augment our popular R405 and R405ER models. These new models will be called DSC710, DSC720, DSC730, and DSC740 Balanced Photodiodes. They consist of a "push-pull pair" of InGaAs photodiodes, each photodiode being capable of handling large optical power in excess of 10 dBm.

Table I: Salient Features of the "700 Series" Balanced Photodiodes
Model Number Typical Bandwidth (GHz) Typical Responsivity at 1300 nm (A/W) Typical Responsivity at 1550 nm (A/W) Typical PDL (dB) Optical Power Handling Capability (mW) Per Photodiode
DSC710 10 0.80 0.75 0.05 > 30
DSC720 20 0.80 0.75 0.05 > 20
DSC730 30 0.65 0.60 0.05 > 15
DSC740 40 0.65 0.60 0.05 > 10

The models DSC710 and DSC720 will be useful for the 10 Gb DPSK & DPQSK markets, whereas the models DSC730 and DSC740 will serve the 40 Gb DPSK & DPQSK applications. All the new models come with the option of installing them in our "Lab Buddy", the MOST VERSATILE O/E CONVERTER Instrument in the industry.
